A company managed by strict accounting regulations will be an anemic organization, unwilling to take on any risk at all, and will not be successful over the long-term. A company run totally by engineers, can sometimes turn out to be similar to being run by accountants, in that the company may have too many controls and be too risk adverse. (I know that is hard to believe you are hearing that comment coming from an engineer.) A company run totally by geologists and geophysicists may take too much risk with little or no concern about the financial performance of the company. A company totally run by IT will lock down all computer resources such that no one can have access, and will just need to be sold. (Now all my IT friends will hate me for this comment.) Obviously, someone has to run the company and it really doesn't matter what background they come from, because the success of the company will depend totally upon how well its organization functions as a team, and whether it gives opportunity for creativity and uniqueness. Every oil and gas organization requires the technical expertise of each profession, but they must each bring their own separate and distinct strengths and be allowed to have influence on the company's decisions. Good leaders and managers will make opportunity for each technical expertise to be represented and have input into corporate decisions, because the cumulative strengths will overwhelmingly exceed the strengths of any one of the parts. Don't allow your organization to get bogged down with kingdom building. It takes everyone's cooperation to work together as a team. If you are highly critical of everything your organization does, you may be the weak link in the organization. Try to find solutions instead of being the one with constant complaints. Try to mend fences within your team, instead of creating barriers and obstacles to overcome. Everything in life depends upon relationships!!! Work hard to expand your spheres of influence and build upon your existing relationships. It is with that spirit that an organization has the opportunity to flourish and grow and be successful in all that it sets to accomplish. Lastly, I would like close by informing you that CEC Energy Consultants is proud to announce that it has now added geophysical capability with the addition of 30 year veteran, Tom Wittick to our consulting group. We are pleased to offer the ability to provide integrated property evaluations that give an accurate assessment of the reserves in the ground as well as the upside potential of the property based on seismic data calibrated to engineering data. Calibration of seismic data allows us to extract detailed reservoir information from seismic data. Optimum implementation of this technique requires a clear understanding of reservoir properties at the well locations and then a careful correlation of one or more reservoir properties to seismic attributes. This often involves the geostatistical correlation of geophysical attributes to one or more reservoir properties. Once statistically significant correlations are determined then we move from the known areas in the vicinity of each well to the unknown or lesser-known areas using the calibrated seismic attributes to estimate reservoir properties. CEC Energy Consultants can provide the integrated geophysics and engineering approach that is essential to Development Geophysics. To find out more about Tom and our geophysical capability, consult our website or contact either of us directly as we would be happy to answer your questions. Happy Prospecting!
