The
greatest enemy of success is a paralyzing focus on the bottom line.
Stephen Covey, author of The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,
says, "The first imperative for today's leaders is the top line, not
the bottom line." By this, he means that if we concentrate on people
(the top line), the bottom line will take care of itself. The effective,
out-performing organization will provide an environment that nurtures
creative thinking.
Phrases that I hear all the time that will totally
annihilate creativity, are:
"It's not in the budget."
"We tried that before and it didn't work."
"It will be more trouble than it's worth."
"We did that 10 years ago."
"You will have to talk to IT about getting one of those."
Every negative statement that we hear, and especially if the negative no-can-do statements significantly outweigh the positive can-do's, create self-doubt and cause those who have the ability to generate opportunities for corporate growth, to fail to follow through on ideas for fear of rejection or worse yet, reprimand.
Probably the most destructive road-block to exploration creativity, is the desire to quantify risk and results and relate those to economics too early in the process. Most explorationists are under extreme pressure to produce prospects, and while many ideas that are generated may not all pan out, it would be detrimental to the creative process to constantly dismiss ideas without giving some of them opportunity develop.
Good leaders and managers have a unique opportunity to help encourage the effectiveness of their exploration teams, by learning to defuse the things that create a negative impact on the idea generators and at the same time, exhibit confidence to upper level management as to their prudence in maintaining control over finding, G&G, G&A and other associated costs that can negatively impact the bottom line and ultimately the success and profitability of the organization.
Every successful oil and gas organization will consist of strong technical capability in engineering, geology, geophysics, land management and their respective administrative support groups. Accounting and administration, while they usually make up the largest portion of personnel of most operating entities cannot be allowed to dictate the conditions in which the company moves forward.

Since
1999, CEC Energy Consultants has been an engineering
consultant and project management firm that allows clients to out-source
operations, engineering, and business development projects while its
client maintains project control. Outsourcing and exploitation of
a client's projects maximizes profitability by allowing production
and revenues to continue to be credited towards quarterly earnings,
and personnel and capital to be focused on more important projects
that directly impact corporate financials.
CEC Energy Consultants uses industry software such
as Geoplus Corporation's Petra and Petraseis Workstations for geologic,
geophysics and engineering functions, to enhance the identification
of new business development opportunities with existing or newly acquired
assets. Petra is unparalleled in its ability to build isopach maps
and log cross-sections, but more importantly from an engineering standpoint,
to analyze and screen public data sources for acquisition and drilling
prospect leads as well as other advanced geologic, geophysics and
engineering functions.
CEC Energy Consultants provides a highly technical
and qualified team whose members work together to maximize the amount
of reservoir information gleaned from seismic data and provide an
integrated property assessment that gives an accurate evaluation of
reserves in the ground as well as the upside potential of the property
based on seismic data calibrated to existing engineering data.
CEC Energy Consultants' expertise in using the latest
technology application tools will result in reserve additions and
well productivity enhancements to your asset base. Visit our website

How can I obtain volumetric reserve calculations from contouring?
To perform volumetric oil or gas in place calculations, we can use the simple formulas we learned in school and are familiar with. But the basic information we must know very confidently is porosity, water saturation, net pay thickness and drainage area.
